Our staff will greet you and provide you with some brief paperwork for you to fill out. The paperwork provides us with some general information about you and your reason for being at the clinic. We will introduce our privacy and financial policies to you.
History & Examination
In order to determine what the underlying cause of your problem is and whether we may be able to help, you will be asked various questions related to your condition. We’ll also do a thorough history to understand your health trajectory and lifestyle issues that may be playing a role in your condition. As well, we will use information from a series of orthopaedic, neurological and chiropractic tests to determine your current health status.
X-ray Studies
Shiloh Clinic utilizes the latest in Digital Xray. Xrays can tell us a great deal about your skeletal structure. We need to know what kind of adjustments are best for you! Your specific condition may require x-rays to either rule out more serious conditions or assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you. If this is the case, you will be taken into our radiology facility for further assessment.
Report of Findings
Once the examination is complete, the doctor will discuss the information with you and determine the best approach to take. This may involve chiropractic treatment, modality application, orthopedic support, massage therapy, nutritional suggestions or it may require a referral to a medical doctor or specialist. You will be told of your options and given a clear idea of what to expect.
Home Instructions
Prior to leaving, you will be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be performed at home. This may include the application of ice or heat, ergonomic coaching [avoidance of certain activities or positions], as well as home exercises and/or stretches.
The Adjustment
Our in office care typically involves a spinal adjustment or gentle manipulation of other skeletal components. An adjustment is a gentle mobilizing correction to the vertebrae of the spine. You may also require some muscle stretching or trigger point work. It’s all usually pretty comfortable and doesn’t take too long. The effects of spinal adjustment are cumulative as this process is repeated over time.
Doctors of chiropractic diagnose, treat and help prevent disorders of the musculoskeletal system [bones, muscles, cartilage, tendons, joints and connective tissues]. These conditions can have an untoward effect on other body systems including the nervous system.
The main form of treatment chiropractors deliver is called an adjustment – a non-invasive procedure consisting of a precise directed movement to help relieve pain and discomfort, and restore range of motion. Sometimes our doctors will also use other therapies like massage, heat, Shock Wave Therapy, and ultrasound. We will make a referral to other providers including medical specialists when appropriate.
Chiropractors complete at least seven years of accredited post-secondary education and participate in supervised clinical training during their last two years.
Our doctors are members of the Alberta College and Association of Chiropractors. The ACAC regulates the chiropractic profession in a manner that supports quality care and upholds public trust; as well as furthers awareness and understanding of the benefits of chiropractic care.
